Compliance and Enforcement Network Reconstituted |

Compliance and enforcement activities in the Agency were given a big boost by the reconstitution of the erstwhile Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Network. The national network will bring together stakeholders to enforce environmental laws in a way that will bring sustainable development to the country.
Opening the ceremony on 19th May 2010, the Executive Director of the EPA, Mr. Jonathan Allotey, opined that compliance with environmental laws can create value to the public and private sectors.

EPA Participates in the First Ghana Policy Fair |

The Government through the Ministry of Information and National Orientation organised a five-day Ghana Policy Fair 2010. It provides a unique opportunity for the Ministries, Departments and Agencies to showcase their policies, plans and project to the public and to educate them on their activities and get a feedback if it meets the desires of the public. The fair was from 27th May to 2nd June 2010.

Oil and Gas Environmental Governance Needs Assessment |

Ghana will soon become a producer of crude oil after the discovery of petroleum in 2007 in commercial quantities. Despite this huge economic resource there may be negative environmental backlash during production. In his vein, Ghana and Norway entered into a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of oil and gas in February 2008. They are collaborating on best practise of handling of environmental concerns which might arise.

MAB Committee Visits the Bia Biosphere Reserve |

The National Man & the Biosphere Committee paid a working visit to the Bia Biosphere Reserve from 26th to 29th May 2010. The main aims of the visit were to educate members on the Biosphere Reserve concept, to assess the status of livelihood introduced under the BRAAF project and to identify any salient issues for project interventions for the communities.

Ministry Lifts Ban on Construction of Mobile Towers |

The Agency received a letter on 1st June 2010 from the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology of the lifting of the ban on the construction and operation of communication cell sites in Ghana. The Agency has been instructed to begin processing of applications based on the new guidelines for the deployment of communication mast.
